Red Moon River.
Women embody a natural cycle—composed of interconnected energy matter pulled from the very same universe we inhabit. The energy that is held in our pelvis is impressively powerful and we must tap into it.
Unfortunately, our society has created ill programming in which our culture disassociates women's bodies from our feelings and negates our internal experiences. We see this in films, products advertised to us, reproductive control, objectification of the female body, and so on...
This programming severs our mind-body connection and makes it difficult to comprehend how one could even begin to learn how to tap into the insight of the menstruating body.
At a young age, we are told that birth control pills, vaginal rings, IUD's, or injections are the only way to avoid pregnancy or to ease PMS symptoms. Which is completely erroneous.
When our society constantly feeds unfavorable misguided information about the female body, it is easy to buy into these beliefs and make them our own. Collectively, we can have compassion for ourselves and others who likely didn’t have loving information about their anatomy and physiology.
Through this compassion, I share a story of my great grandmother who at the time of adolescence was living in a boarding house in Texas. She and her mother would go from home to home to find work washing clothes by the river for very little money. During the time of my great grandmother’s menstruation, she would go down to the river and bleed. I was told she was afraid, not knowing why she was bleeding, because know one ever told her it was normal. This is also why I decided to call my period one day, a red river.
Today, I believe more women are waking up to the lovingness of their own soft power, and it begins with understanding and loving our own perfectly natural bodies.
